Almost Autumn – A Harvest Full of Change

Hi SLO Veg family,
While summer still has her sweetness, we can feel autumn gently knocking at the door. This week’s harvest box is a beautiful mix of summer treasures and early fall favorites.
We’re savoring the very last of Martinon Farms’ zucchini and yellow squash blend. Javier is ready to disc under the remainder of his squash to focus on his 70,000 tomato plants and large harvests suppling SLO Veg and additional local businesses. Sweet bi-color corn on the cob from Heritage Farm SLO will be around a couple more weeks with a little break and then restart in October. At the same time, cozy autumn flavors are beginning to peek through with Earl’s Organics organic Yukon gold, purple and red potatoes, apples, along with hearty organic Globe eggplant. The tender organic Dino kale is from Babe Farms Specialties, Inc.
There’s plenty of color in between: purple ninja radishes, yellow carrots, green bell peppers, and those classic Roma tomatoes—all perfect for roasting, braising, or tossing into hearty summer salads.
And of course, fruit is at its peak right now! Juicy Honey Punch and Emerald Beaut pluots, crisp Bartlett pears join a rainbow of organic apples (Gala, Fuji, and Jonagold). We have Red Flame grapes, Mini watermelon and cantaloupe, and it’s pure magic to fill our fruit boxes or to include with your next harvest box delivery. Check out our Marketplace to add the melons and additional items with your next delivery.

It’s a season of transition, and we’re grateful to be celebrating both summer’s flavors and autumn’s first comforts with you. Wishing you all a fabulous weekend. With gratitude for every harvest,
Rachael & SLO Veg Team
