This Week’s Fresh Fish Selections:

Monday – Friday Fish: Fresh Local Lingcod or Rock Cod Fillets
Both are excellent tender fish for serving up fish tacos!

Lingcod is a lean white fleshed fish with a mild flavor profile, medium-firm texture and large flakes. The raw flesh may have a blue-green shimmer which reminds you of a sort of gasoline slick. But don’t worry, this is natural for this fish and it disappears with cooking, leaving beautiful white flesh.

Rockfish are a lean fish and have a mild, sweet flavor with a nutty accent. The flesh has a medium-firm texture with medium sized flakes.

As it is heating up, we are beginning summer 2020 and approaching the summer solstice where new seasonal harvests are ready to harvest! Though San Luis Obispo is entering further phases of relieving restrictions put in place for safety during the COVID-19 outbreak this is still one of the best times of year to enjoy eating fresh, delicious, nutritious fruits and vegetables directly from our fabulous farmers. When buying local there are so many residual benefits it doesn’t make sense to do anything else. That’s why on so many levels SLO Veg is your ticket to the highest quality produce!


Buying local is simply the best way to support and sustain our local economy. Buying from corporate grocers further separates you from seeing your dollar circulate in our community, buying from our local growers boosts local economies. You will always obtain higher quality and better-tasting produce with higher retained nutrient content knowing they were grown close to home. When produce labeled as being “organic’ are shipped from Mexico and other areas the chances of them being gassed to extend shelf life are high. As we kick off summer this is a great example of experiencing the seasonal changes through the food that we eat. In the next several weeks we will begin offering a variety of peaches, plums, pluots, nectarines, summer squash, green beans, avocados just to name a few that coincide with local natural cycles grown in your own backyard!  We can hardly wait for vine ripe tomatoes arriving in the next 3-5 weeks.  Hooray!
