Anniversary Harvest

Hey there SLO Veg Family!
It is with fond affection, love and joy, that I get to write to you each and every week.  In preparing this weeks’ email, I took a little trip down memory lane this morning looking at all of our posts since 2009 on our Facebook page.  With great excitement, I found a number of pictures and customer posts that brought tears of joy to my heart in remembrance of all the years we’ve had the privilege to serve SLO and Santa Barbara County residents.
Our story starts like this….
On June 15, 2009, we began delivering out of our carport in Corbett Canyon. We owned a little red Honda CRV at that time, had 13 subscribers our first week, a handful of farmers and my daughter Sydni Dunn and Dan Melton (Co Founder) running the mother ship!  By the end of the first week we doubled our subscriber base. By end of week two, we moved into our first warehouse located on Woodbridge Street. This was the true beginning of knowing we created a dynamic company that would thrive and continue to serve our community for many years to come. We’re now serving 1000’s of locals.  Many of you have been with us since day 1. Thank You, we LOVE you!

I received an email this morning from one of our original dear subscribers: she shared the day of her 1st delivery during our first week in business. She was feeding her newborn son and couldn’t answer the door, so Dan happily offered to bring her harvest box in to her house and placed it on her counter top.  From that very day to today, The Slaughters have been with us — 13 years strong!  Laura shared that her son will be turning 13 years next month.  What a heck of a milestone for us, along with having the true love and support from our subscribers. Our customer support and level of exemplary service is hands down one of the most important elements in all that we do. Excellence is Everything!

SLO Veg is a labor of love for me.  Working tirelessly for the past 13 years, partnering with farmers, selecting beautiful local items to share with you every week.  I love everything about being the liaison between our farmers and you. We’ve partnered with local businesses, we give back weekly donating to the Food Bank also Happy Hen Animal Sanctuary, no food goes to waste.  We donate and support so many local non profit organizations, along with businesses that are aligned with our mission.  All to help sustain sand create a better community.  We LOVE helping grow our community. It is our mission to always serve.

I would like to personally thank every subscriber that has continued our service, signed up, has tried us, I consider you our family, and think of you each and every day.

This Wednesday, June 15 is our 13th Anniversary.  Please join us in celebrating.  We’re partnered with the Pismo Beach Chamber and will be having ribbon cutting at Farmers Market.  There will be food, cake, prizes, live music and lots of fun for everyone attending. Everyone is invited, we’d love to see all of our wonderful subscribers enjoying this wonderful milestone with us.

Ever noticed the difference in how citrus tastes sliced vs peeled?  Give it a try this week.  We prefer sliced and find the fruit tastes juicier! Quick tip for ripening your fresh peaches and nectarines. Place them in a paper sack on your countertop for a couple of days. This will encourage the sugar content to bring out the sweetness quicker. Refrigerating slows down the ripening process.
