Chef Lovers Rainbow Harvest:

Hey there SLO Veg Foodie Friends!
Last weekend was the Greek Festial at the Madonna Expo, we had a fantastic time as vendors along with eating delicious greek food, dancing, and enjoying all the wonderful people who attended.  We met so many and thank everyone who stopped by our booth, purchased fresh items and signed up.  Welcome!

Our 13th Anniversary falls on Wednesday, June 15.  In celebration we’re partnered with the Pismo Beach Chamber and will be having ribbon cutting at Farmers Market.  There will be food, cake, prizes, live music and lots of fun for everyone attending.  Please join us, everyone is invited, and we’d love to see all of our wonderful subscribers enjoying the wonderful milestone with us.

Ever noticed the difference in how citrus tastes sliced vs peeled?  Give it a try this week.  We prefer sliced and find the fruit tastes juicier!
Quick tip for ripening your fresh peaches and nectarines. Place them in a paper sack on your countertop for a couple of days. This will encourage the sugar content to bring out the sweetness quicker. Refrigerating slows down the ripening process.

Meet Javier & Irma Martinon

SLOcals, yes they are!  Javier and Irma have been our farmers for the past 10 years growing sustainably on their 2 farms located in SLO.  They are truly “Outstanding In Their Field!”  We just love them both.  They grow so many items for us to include: summer squash, lettuces, broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, kales, corn on the cob, and tomatoes, tomatoes, tomatoes ~ as Javier loves to say.  Each week I reach out to Javier to check in to see what’s ready to harvest to share with you.  He picks for us daily to ensure you’re getting the best quality and tasting produce.

Javier planted 20,000 tomato plants about a month and a half ago, and just this past weekend, planted another 20,000.  Mid to end of July we’ll be offering tomatoes by the case(s) to you in our marketplace on a weekly basis for you to add on additionally with your harvest boxes.  The sauces, bruschetta’s, salsa’s and canned tomatoes for us have been a fabulous staple we’ve utilized during the winter months.  We can’t wait for more! in July!

We can’t express enough our gratitude for the tireless efforts in supporting SLO Veg and feeding all of you each and every week.  Many thanks,  Javier & Irma ` We LOVE you both!
