Our Favorite Ways to Use Watermelon
There are few things that we can think of that are more refreshing than a slice of chilled watermelon on a hot day. Sure, ice cream is a close second, but there’s something about the delicate yet pronounced cool sweetness of a watermelon that instantly appeases that internal heat you feel after a long day in the sun. Perhaps it’s just us, but by comparison with other fruits, we feel that watermelon takes the cake in packaging fiber, antioxidants, electrolytes and flavor into the dreamiest bite of thirst-quenching heaven.
If you’re anything like us, then you’re always on the lookout for preparation methods/recipes that will enhance every delicious profile of any raw food item. Lucky for you, Meredith from our team has got you covered, below are some of her favorite watermelon-related tricks and recipes to wow any crowd with this faultless fruit.
Simple Tricks
Ball Out
I’ve discussed this before in previous articles, but I passionately believe that changing the shape of a food can drastically increase enthusiasm to eat it. This is my go-to trick for those with picky eaters at home, sure it’s a bit more tedious, but you’ll feel like the ultimate snack serving rockstar.
Freeze it
If I end up with extra watermelon that I know is a bit old or has that devastating soft texture in the center, I often will cut it into cubes, lay it on a tray or baking pan and then stick it in the freezer. From here, the options are endless. I could add it to smoothies, make a frozen mixed drink, or even spice up my water with a watermelon ice cube. These are also fun to eat “as is” if you’re fixin ‘for something cold, sweet, and frothy.
