This Week’s Farm Fresh Harvests
January 21-24, 2025

This week, we’re celebrating a unique lineup of fresh finds, perfect for winter cooking! First up, Peruvian chayote—mild and versatile, it’s ready to star in soups, sautés, or even a winter slaw. Japanese turnips are also here, with their delicate sweetness and crisp texture; these gems are perfect raw in salads or caramelized with a quick roast. And don’t miss cabbage that’s just begging for the grill—try slicing it into thick wedges, brushing it with olive oil, and letting those charred edges do their thing. That said, the frosty winter weather has been making its mark, holding some of our favorite crops back. Cold temps and frost have slowed growth on a few items like beets and orange carrots, all lettuce varieties grown by Frank (above) was wiped out cue to frost for the next 4-5 weeks. We’re bummed, but hopeful to find other resources for greens. Don’t worry—our local farmers are keeping a close eye and working hard to bring the freshest picks your way. Stay cozy and creative in the kitchen this week!

We wish you all a healthy happy week and look forward to seeing you.

Warm regards,  Rachael and SLO Veg Foodie Team
